Baseball season is just beginning. As a player, you’re probably setting goals for yourself, practicing hard and working on your swing. During the season, our dentists, Drs. Osa, Casanova and Brand, encourage you to care for your smile regularly. This is important because there are certain behaviors that can negatively affect your oral health. To keep your teeth and gums in tip-top shape, it’s best to avoid these behaviors:
-Drinking sports drinks: Because sports drinks contain high amounts of sugar, they promote dental cavities while you drink them. It’s best to avoid drinking sports drinks altogether and just drink water instead. If you can’t avoid drinking sports drinks, make sure to rinse your mouth and clean your smile quickly after consuming them.
-Using tobacco: Tobacco is very dangerous for the smile and entire health. So, please do not chew, smoke or use tobacco. If you need help quitting the habit, our dental team can share some tips.
-Chewing tooth-harming products: Sunflower seeds and sugary gum can promote dental issues. So, it’s best to chew shell-less seeds and sugar-free gum. This is because the shells of sunflower seeds can crack the tooth enamel and the sugar in sugary gum can promote the development of tooth decay.
